Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 18th Anniversary
Melbourne is set to come alive in the first week of spring for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. This year is even more special being the 18th anniversary of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (Sep 3-9).
Everyone loves a good 18th which is usually a rite of passage into adulthood. The Melbourne Spring Fashion Week has undoubtably come a long way from the early days. It now has an international flavour but is also very Melbourne.
This year the coming of age is celebrated with the first time inclusion of a male face, Jake Sofo. This should be a great dynamic.
Also headlining the week will be Annaleise Smith, Emily Trimble-Thompson, and Ebony Edwards. Of course Annaleise Smith was discovered walking out of a train station by a Chadwick's scout in Melbourne. Today it might be harder to spot talent with all the chaos and queues surrounding the teething problems with Myki. Annaleise has shot for Australian Vogue and American Elle and has been a significant part of NYFW.
Emily Trimble-Thompson started modelling at 14 and has been successful in Europe. Ebony Edwards is also a Melbourne girl making a success of the modelling world.
Melbourne Spring Fashion week will feature the business series featuring breakfast with local and international speakers engaging business topics related to fashion.
The Emerging Designer Series will be headlined by Ebony Edwards, and will include the RMIT Emerging Designer Collections.
The Designer Series includes plenty of runway action featuring local and Australian talent.
David Jones is a great supporter of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week and will be showcasing collections for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. Last year there was a great event just outside David Jones in the mall, where not only collections were featured but there was sensational commentary from Megan Gale and Emma Freedman as well.
The MSFW @ City Square is also magnificent with a special marquee set up for the week and plenty of action and free events.
For budding designers and fashionistas there's some fantastic events held as part of Look.Stop.Shop - celebrating the retail and fashion utopia that is Melbourne.
