At The World Loves Melbourne our editorial and art teams are always on the look out for what's fresh and new. If you're a creative person who has something fresh and interesting to say about food, fashion and arts and celebrate Melbourne then please get in touch.
We're currently looking for written pieces and pictorials.
We reserve editorial rights and can't guarantee every piece submitted to us will be published.

What our readers want
The World Loves Melbourne has a certain view of the world of food, fashion fashion and the arts - and our readers, who are both consumers and in the industry, want content that sits in line with it. In a nutshell we celebrate Melbourne and keep a simple positive tone of what Melbourne offers. We don't see our site as necessarily promoting causes and we don't feel obliged to promote every event, festival or happening in Melbourne.

In particular our readers desire three things:
-Excellent photo shoots.
Food, Fashion and Art are visual mediums. So we're always looking for pictorials that explore and inspire, that engage the viewer and push the medium.
-Excellent written pieces.
So we're looking for writers who can frequently pen pieces that ring true, pieces that engage the mind. The topics can be varied. Is there a new restaurant we haven't reviewed? Is there a new twist on a cuisine? A new collection that is changing things and pushing the boundaries? A new way of wearing an existing trend? Or perhaps lifestyle is more your thing and you can muse poetic about the latest hot spots in your city that are great for people watching. If it's food, fashionable, cultured, cutting edge or news worthy, our readers want to know about it.
-Excellent video content.
The printed word and photos may breathe life into food, fashion, and the arts - but video is the medium that truly lets it come alive. Our readers are interested in filmmaking talents who are relevant to them and carrying the quality that their lives are imbued with.

What's in it for you?
Your talent, art and name in front of thousands of readers. We respect your craft, and we're constantly working hard to bring attention to it. We give credit where credit is due to our writing and photographic talent. The World Loves Melbourne is focussed on helping gain exposure, attention and experience for the talented people who make the publication what it is. We can't pay (and this is usual for sites such as this) as such but it can be great for those wanting exposure and a creative outlet, and who enjoy The World Loves Melbourne. For regulars there may be the odd "freebie" in attending the odd event as our representative.

Best Hotel Accomodation in Melbourne

Written by Melbourne Food Blog on . Posted in Uncategorised

Here is some of the best hotel accomodation in Melbourne Australia...

The Langham

The Langham is a super impressive award winning hotel full of class, style and that bit extra you expect from a top hotel with a 5 star rating. It's also in a great location in the heart of the city and in the Southbank precinct.

The Langham is a place where you stay if you want luxury. It's also a place to meet people if you want to impress. It's an iconic hotel with a great history.

Many professionals think in terms of The Langham for events and functions. It has a great reputation with Melbournites as well as interstate and international visitors. Even honeymooners greatly enjoy The Langham as that "special place" that creates memories.

Here at The Langham expect great service from every section of the hotel, including great room service. Rooms feature high end European styling.

The hotel is appointed with chandeliers and water fountains. Views are incredible especially if you get a view of the Yarra. Club facilities are also excellent where you can relax with canapes.

Melba's restaurant has a great reputation and is at the top of the Grand Staircase (marble staircase) in The Lobby. This restaurant has one of the highest popularity ratings in Melbourne by diners. Indeed this is one of the most highly rated buffets in Melbourne. And the views are stunning.

High tea in The Aria Lounge is a grand occasion and one of the most acclaimed high teas in Melbourne with those classic ribbon sandwiches.

The Westin Melbourne

The Westin is another luxury hotel in the heart of the city on iconic Collins Street. The hotel is near Federation Square and Flinders Street Station, as well as some of Melbourne's best cafes and restaurants. Collins Street is also famous as a premium shopping precinct.

Hotel Lindrum

You might not tell from the outside that this Flinders Street hotel is a great hotel, having being converted from an old tea store. This has the feel of a boutique hotel with intimate lobby and restaurant.

Rooms are well apportioned with DVD player and sound system. High ceilings are the order of the day in this historic building.

The location is excellent on Flinders Street on the edge of the CBD and close to transport and great restaurants, cafes and shopping. Also close to iconic sporting stadiums.

Sofitel Melbourne on Collins

For many this is their number one hotel of choice. Right in the heart of the city in iconic Collins Street the Sofitel on Collins stands tall in a classy precinct. you might find yourself on the 40 something floor enjoying 180 degree views.

The Sofitel is the flagship of the Accor hotel range. It boasts great rooms, service and great restaurants. The rooms have stunning views over the city and the bay, and can include nearby iconic sporting stadiums. The MCG is only a 10 minute walk away. Club Sofitel is also excellent.

The restaurant No 35 is a highly acclaimed dining experience with incredible views of the city.

There are other iconic Melbourne restaurants close by. Collins Street is a haven for fashion, food and finery.

Quay West Suites Melbourne

My friend, one of America's top investment bankers stayed here with his family and loved it. Well appointed large rooms and in a great part of the city in the Southbank precinct. Close to the action with Southbank shops and resaurants then only a short stroll across the river to the main CBD precinct. For mine, it's also close to Flinders Lane where there are also many great restaurants.

Rooms are well apointed and families can enjoy facilities such as a washing machine. Also desks and even a bath tub. Great balcony views of the Yarra are a highlight.

Quay West has a great reputation for customer service throughout the hotel.

Park Hyatt

Many professionals swear by the Park Hyatt standard of luxury and the Park Hyatt in Melbourne doesn't dissapoint. It has the feel of a grand hotel. There is the feeling of grandeur even before you walk inside with excellent surroundings. Once inside you are struck by the quality of design, furniture and fittings.

The precinct is in the CBD but in a quiet part, just a short stroll from Parliament. It's just a short stroll to great restaurants, cafes and shopping. There are even pleasant gardens nearby.

Service is excellent.

The Olsen is an inspiring place to stay and is unique compared to many others. There's an emphasis on art and the hotel is filled with inspiring art - part of The Art Series of hotels. Inspiring art and inspiring design.

The Olsen is a place preferred by some of the world's celebrities. It's full of vibe, cool and luxurious.  The hotels' premium suite is absolutely stunning with great views of the city and impressive facilities.

This hotel is also in a great location on Chapel St - a premium shopping and restaurant strip. and it's also not too far from the city.

The Olsen has excellent dining facilities itself in its own restaurant. There are also several acclaimed dining spots nearby. Pop down to Burch and Purchese neaby, an iconic sweets and desserts shop.

Intercontinental The Rialto

Another hotel in a great part of the city the Intercontinental is a premium offering on Collins Street. It has been transformed with a modern adaption of a heritage building.

The Intercontinental has it's own restaurant and there are many top restaurants nearby including the iconic 3 hatted Vue De Monde.

Having stayed in Intercontinental hotels around the world there is always an expectation of excellence with an Intercontinental. The Intercontinental is also known for its Club Lounges.

Rooms are well appointed with iluminated make up mirrors and quality bathrooms. The views don't quite reach the heights of some of the other top hotels in Melbourne.

Grand Hyatt Melbourne

The Grand Hyatt is located in a great part of the city and boasts stunning views including Federation Square. Rooms are well appointed but smaller than some others.

The restaurant Collins Kitchen is highly acclaimed with plush fine dining including pre-made dishes as well as dishes to order.

Crown Metropol

Another great hotel within the Crown complex. Popular because of its style, location and great value. As part of the Crown Complex it is close to great restaurants and cafes and premium shopping.

Enjoy the infinite pool facility and the Melbourne sky line.

The hotel boasts a great resaurant Mr Hive Kitchen and Bar which is highly acclaimed by diners. The chef was nominated for The Age Good Food Guide Young Chef of the Year. There also several of Melbourne's great restaurants nearby.

Novotel Melbourne on Collins

The Novotel Melbourne on Collins is a place I've caught up with business colleagues several times. it is the hotel of choice for several friends of mine staying in Melbourne for a few days on business.

The hotel has the advantage of being in the heart of the city in the heart of Collins Street - thus it's not far from most things.

Rooms here have undergone a refurbishment which is good news.

This hotel has good corporate facilities and packages for business conferences.

Bottega Pasta Classes in August

Bottega, the legendary Italian restaurant on Bourke is presenting an exciting dining experience in August which involves a pasta making class with chef Gabriele. A few of us were fortunate to experience something of a premiere one evening.

Second Hand Shops

Written by Melbourne Food Blog on . Posted in Uncategorised

Here are our Top Melbourne Second Hand Shops and Op Shops for range, price, ambience and "charitability":

Parish Bargain Shop Flemington - St Georges/Brotherhood of St Laurence

Is this Melbourne's coolest Second Hand/Op Shop? At 302 Racecourse Road Flemington this is a classic. The Parish Bargain Shop serves St Georges Anglican Parish and has a fairtrade policy. Staffed by a part-time Manager and a team of volunteers, drawn from the congregation.

Come here to a compact Op Shop with great clothing bargains including a $1 rack that included designer clothers - hard to beat! Scarves were only $2. I found clothing here to be cheaper than most other Op Shops.

The absolute classic is the mannequin called Melissa. She even has her own Facebook page! Staff were hilarious and told me Melissa goes to many parties and even does karaoke. She is often dressed with saleable items.

Also find a good selection of books and shoes and handbags here.

Another classic is the shoplifters warning consisting of a skeleton - very humourous.

With crooner music playing and character staff it's a real experience coming here. Not to mention the prospect of a designer item for $1.

Salvos Doncaster East

Salvos at 916c Doncaster Road Doncaster East is a great Second Hand/Op Shop with good quality options. Overall I rate it highly but some items seemed a little expensive for a Second Hand/Op Shop.

The store is deceptively large and goes back a long way with two main sections.

The clothing section is large and good selection for all categories. They hav ean excellent designer section. Several changing rooms enhance the buyer experience.

There are a surprising number of books, vinyl records, videos and CD's in the back section.

The children's toy section is excellent albeit the section is small.

There is also a good amount of kitchenware and bric a brac items. I was however surprised at non descript wine glasses for $6 each - about the same price as new ones in most retail stores.

Salvos Doncaster has a large range of shoes and handbags.

Staff are excellent and the store is well organised. I always feel sorry for the Salvos when people dump trashy items in their bins, sometimes overflowing with useless items. You can see the evidence of this at times when you drive down Doncaster Road.

Parking is great during the week but you might have to park around the corner in Jackson Court on a Saturday.

All in all an excellent Second Hand/Op Shop.

St Vinnies Mitcham

St Vinnies Mitcham is an excellent Second Hand Store/Op Shop with a large selection of goods.

The store is a pleasure to visit with excellent displays in the window and a well organised store. Come here for a large selection of clothing albeit the majority is ladies fashion.

The furniture section is large with an excellent selection of couches and tables and other furniture at reasonable prices.

Also a great selection of shoes and handbags and household items.

Brotherhood of St Laurence, Brunswick

St Vinnies Hawthorn

St Vinnies at 254 Auburn St Hawthorn is an absolute winner in a great location. The highlights include some good bargains on furniture with decent pieces on offer and often at sale prices. Great discount on trousers and shoes. Also an excellent kids toy section. We went away with a Pokemon quilt cover from 1995. It's a large spacious premises. All in all a wide selction and a decent amount of quality goods. Great to drop in here with a isit to Porgie and Mr Jones just down the road.
