Café Vue oozes class, as does anything associated with Vue De Monde and Shannon Bennett. This is often called the “people’s Vue de Monde”. A chic place to meet people with great food and drink at reasonable prices is a winning combination! I love the uber ambience of a large spacious café with various sections.
As it was a windy day I wanted to stay inside. I had the choice of several areas including sitting on a stool looking through the glass or at some tables featuring cork like stools. I opted for sitting at one of the larger tables beyond the glass – really cool modern tables and benches. I couldn’t help notice the use of finely intertwined wire as the material for the walls and roof out there. I loved the lighting inside the service area including use of mounted studio lighting with coloured lights and spotlights for mood effect. Menu choices on tables and presented on backboards like bookends either side of the counter/bar area.
What I love is that for reasonable price gourmet experience you get the Vue De Monde DNA and top class service. The table service was superb throughout including being quick to greet me and serve me water, then offer me the menu and a recommendation, quick to serve my coffee and food, and flexibility when I changed tables! Also as the staff is professional they provide that bit extra in attitude and excellence. Very impressed!
The most expensive meal on the breakfast menu seemed to be the Duck Egg Jaffle which was magnificent (magnifique) for only $14. The Duck Egg Jaffle was considered the current most popular breakfast choice by the waiter so was duly ordered. What a great dish! A taste of gourmet dining at a reasonable price! The jaffle came wonderfully hot with thick buttery toasted bread. Already cut in half, there was plenty of oozing egg goodness from within! For some reason in my mind I had confused quail egg with duck egg1 So I was expecting a microscopic taste of egg inside a large jaffle. But I received a mother of a duck egg full of flavour (a little more of a stronger taste than a regular chicken egg). It all came as a big ‘melt’ so I suspected some cheese inside. Certainly Hollandaise sauce was a key ingredient. And wonderful chunky pieces of quality bacon! So good!
The coffee was also excellent and once again my latte was strong and creamy with excellent latte art. The coffee is 5 Senses and an excellent blend developed between 5 Senses and Vue De Monde. It consists of Brazilian (20%), Colombian (205), Costa Rican (15%), Ethiopian (24%), Guatemalan (10%), and Sumantran (10%). And my latte came in a large red cup, which was pretty cool as there is a red theme carried on through the water jug, crockery and red décor in the cafe.
Love the selection at the glass cabinet including high quality macaroons and cakes. They do made to order sandwiches and baguettes for lunch, as well as hot dishes. Friday evening cocktails are popular. Would love to try the famous lunch box one day! Upon leaving the waiter asked me if I would like anything more. I said sorry, I need to get to work. To which he replied “that’s a pity!” He knows me too well!
