Hipster! Hipster! Hipster! Related to Seven Seeds. So of quality stock. Coffee here  is fantastic as you would expect! I always think it depends a lot on the barista not just the quality of coffee (I’ve done a barista course myself). Apparently this café was named after Gabriel de Clieu who was responsible for bringing Arabica coffee beans to the French colonies. It seems Fitzroy is looking in part like a French colony these days (pockets anyway). Great location on Gertrude St and usually pumping ...

Love the big windows and festive atmosphere spilling out onto the street when windows opened up. Staff are great – will direct you to an appropriate dining spot and if they need to move you to make way for a group they do it very politely!

De Clieu was close to my work so came for breakfast and lunch. Famous for pork neck on roti, a very popular dish featuring bbq pork and free range egg with bbq sauce... Five grain porridge! Great pide with spicy sausage for lunch! Can be tricky getting a park and fortunately have been able to score one across the road on Gertrude St.

This place is surprisingly good on food as well as standout coffee, and big on ambience!

David Hagger is a bald headed man with a penchant for finery, convivial dining, and festive culture. He honestly believes Melbourne is an impressive global city.
