Market Lane Coffee is a superlative coffee house next to Vic Markets! It is the brainchild of Jason Scheltus and Fleur Studd – of Melbourne coffee royalty. Not much here in this Spartan smallish café but the ambience is chic and the focus is on the coffee!
Market Lane Coffee is one of the best in Melbourne! I testify to perhaps my greatest ever coffee here. I felt like I’d had some kind of coffee revelation and must now judge all coffees on my experience at Market Lane.
The complexity in the cup was inspiring. I ordered a simple latte, but single origin el Salvador. The aroma was incredible! The crema perfect! But it was those rich tones of milk chocolate and orange that had me exploding on the inside!
To enhance the experience I was able to enjoy my coffee at one of the limited tables with stool. There I gazed upon the Market Lane manifesto on the wall. They pay homage to single origins and estates.
The barista even walked up to me and handed me tasting notes of the farm in El Salvador from where the coffee was sourced. Love it!
I couldn’t resist returning the next day for some Santa Clara Guatemalan. This was also a memorable coffee!
The barista was skilful and happy to chat about all things coffee. He invited me to an upcoming cupping.
The fact they use decent organic milk highlights the fact they are coffee purists.
There is minimal food to be found here. Fair enough! Keep doing what you do with coffee! I was happy to go across to the Vic Markets for my food fix…
Market Lane coffee is related to its big brother in Prahran. Undeniably rarefied air in all things coffee!
