Mr Chook is one of the best chicken takeaway shops in Melbourne! Why am I writing a review of a chicken shop? Because it’s a sensation!
Dining is about different horses for courses. We read a lot about fine dining and cafés around Melbourne. But everyone needs a great chicken shop!
As a graduate working in a large Australian bank, the CEO confided to me one day that he often craves for plain food like baked beans on toast after constantly eating rich food.
I can’t say I ever have that craving… However I don’t always want fine dining! (My wife’s cooking being the exception). I sometimes get cravings for charcoal free range chicken cooked perfectly so that it’s juicy and falling off the bone. I’ve visited Mr Chook many times and never had anything but a perfectly cooked chicken. Never a dry chicken. Some chicken shops will have dry dry chickens towards the end of the day – not Mr Chook!
And yes, they will even cut the chicken in 1/8ths – which some chicken shops refuse to do!
The burger options are also great. Not greasy burgers but smart imaginative chicken burgers and great variety. The hot chicken burger has a real kick in the sauce and is a pleasure to eat.
Can I rave about the chips? Surely the best in Melbourne! I know it’s a big claim but I’m yet to find anywhere better. Great long crispy chips and not too greasy! I’m sure it has something to do with quality of product and the oil they use…
The key is to order the largest chip size – they fill the box to way overflowing! One of the few chicken shops that actually gives you chips for the whole family.
Salads are also great here and a good variety.
Staff are friendly and efficient. The wait is never too long even though this place is popular.
And Mr Chook doesn’t punish your wallet.

Thursday, 16 February 2012Mr Chook is amazing. Went there the other weekend and I must admit it is excellent value for money. I ended up getting the chicken and bacon burger with the bbq sauce, onion and lettuce with the chips on the side. Paid around $10, the burger was ridiculously huge and tasted awesome. It was so filling that I didn't finish all the chips.
Great review, Mr Chook deserves more praise. -
