Got to get you into my life! This retro café which has a rock music theme is a great gem on La Trobe! Here is all about the ambience with great coffee and simple but tasty menu options! Felt I was hanging with The Beatles at The Cavern. Maybe it was just like this back then although I don’t think the expresso machines were quite as good!

I love these underground basement type places. You step down into a kind of rock and roll atmosphere with pictures of musicians and Billy Holiday and Sinatra album covers. Cool music awaits you, not just the posters. I’m sure Sinatra would approve of The Basement for it’s urban cool.

The staff were friendly here and could see there are many regulars in the lunchtime crowd! I just went the simple lunchtime menu of the gourmet pre made baguette and it was great. Along with an excellent coffee, in fact a seriously great coffee from the passionate barista!

The manager was a cool guy and I bet he likes his music. You can sit and watch passers by on La Trobe or hang in the downstairs area with The Beatles (well not quite).
