Join The Feast with Melbourne Good Food Month

The wait is over for The Age Good Food Month presented by Citi which kicks off tonight and runs throughout November across Melbourne and regional Victoria with a bumper program of more than 240 events.

The World Loves Melbourne is excited - see Our Top picks of Good Food Month article.

From the world’s first Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic to one of Latin America’s top chefs Diego Muñoz at the Night Noodle Markets, this eclectic program brings together some of the best in their fields in the most unexpected events and collaborations.

The Good Food Month program has something for everyone with sweet festivals, ramen raves, sugar clubs, movies, masterclasses, book launches as well as the classic Hats Off Dinners, Let’s Do Lunch and Café Collective events.

Hot off the heels of Sydney Good Food Month, Lucky Peach Editor-in-Chief Chris Ying and Pulitzer Prize-winning LA Times food critic Jonathan Gold who will be joined by Attica Head Chef Ben Shewry and Good Food Month Creative Director Gemima Cody for a very special event. Ask yourself – has the Internet killed restaurant creativity? Is life imitating Instagram? Can writers write when they have to write for traffic? Join us on October 30 from 6pm at the Immigration Museum on Flinders Street and these questions might just be answered.

The mega line-up of events also includes the sumptuous new Sweetfest which will take place on November 28 and 29 at the Meat Market in North Melbourne. Attendees will get the chance to see the likes of Doug Quint and Bryan Petroff from New York’s Big Gay Ice Cream, drink cocktails from world’s number 10 cocktail bar the Black Pearl and learn tricks from industry legends Philippa Sibley and Pierre Roelofs. At just $20, with a complimentary glass of Redbank Emily Brut Cuvée, a marketplace of sweet treats for sale and access to the names behind Luxbite, Ganache Chocolates, Hoy Pinoy, N2 Extreme Gelato and Black Star Pastry, this is an opportunity not to be missed!

Creative Director, Gemima Cody said: “I think we’ve evolved past the point where we want to just sit and be fed. So this year’s Good Food Month is all about asking the big questions, getting your hands dirty and defying expectations.”

The Good Food Month events are not all solely about great food but touch on the entire culinary industry. Step Up To The Plate on November 22 at Cinema Nova will offer a movie experience like no other, with Melbourne’s top chefs including Florent Gerardin (Pei Modern), Cory Campbell (ex-Vue De Monde), Peter Gunn (IDES, Attica) and Nic Poelaert paying homage to their mentors by turning their greatest works into movie snacks.

The famous New York duo behind Big Gay Ice Cream will be collaborating with Gelato Messina for an Ice Cream Social where they’ll be serving up custom sundaes, drinks and two new cookbooks to the tunes of CC:Disco on November 26 at 1000  Bend in Little Lonsdale Street in Melbourne.

If a big pile of mussels on fire, beer drinking and rock music sessions are more up your alley than ice-cream socials, Eclade de Moyle will bring together your loves in the one room. Chef David Moyle of Franklin Restaurant in Hobart and Florent Gerardin of Pei Modern will come together on November 15 to create a traditional French eclade de moules with mussels dramatically smoked under a stack of burning pine needles.

Nightnoodlemarkets 19

One the city’s most Instagrammed events, the Night Noodle Markets will return for an extended 18 nights from November 12-29.
