The Glendronach X Bar Lourinha Whisky-paired Tasting
The Glendronach x Bar Lourinha whisky-paired tasting was an exclusive and inspirational event held upstairs at iconic Melbourne restaurant Bar Lourinha.
Bar Lourinha is synonymous with conviviality, impeccable food, and an enduring commitment to Spanish flavors. Enter iconic The Glendronach, the storied Highland whisky revered for its dedication to sherry casks, and you have a match made in gastronomic heaven.
The recent whisky-paired tasting at Bar Lourinha was nothing short of extraordinary—artfully orchestrated by Matt McConnell.
The evening began with a Whisky Rebujito, sipped leisurely out front. A bright concoction of The Glendronach 12-Year-Old, fino sherry, lemon, mint, and orange bitters, it was the perfect prelude to a night of indulgence.
Live rock oysters with a Seville orange mignonette, their briny essence complemented beautifully by the sherry-tinged complexity of The Glendronach 12-Year-Old.
Cantabrian Anchovy & Bonita Butter paired with The Glendronach 15-Year-Old was the perfect pairing, the anchovy’s umami richness was elevated to near-transcendence.
Grilled chorizo, morcilla, and apple pintxo arrived next, a smoky, sweet, and savory delight that found its match in the nuanced depth of The Glendronach 18-Year-Old.
The mains continued the brilliance: from Yellowtail kingfish with pancetta to the Roasted Silver Dory & salsa agridulce, and the exceptional earthy Rabbit and wild mushroom rice, all perfectly paired with a refreshing The Glendronach 12-Year-Old, tonic, orange zest Highball.
The Spiced Chickpeas & Spinach, a signature dish since the restaurant’s inception nearly two decades ago, was a standout.
Roasted Silver Dory hit the high notes of texture and flavour.
Rabbit and wild mushroom rice was a revelation.
Dessert sealed the deal: chocolate buñuelos with burnt orange caramel, paired with The Glendronach 21-Year-Old.
We also learned that The Glendronach is unveiling a visual new chapter in partnership with renowned photographer, Rankin.
The evening concluded at the @britishfilmfest at Como @palacecinemas in South Yarra as we were chauffeured in to view (with whisky and chocolate tops) Falling Into Place—a fitting end to a night of sensory delight. Thank you to The Glendronach and Bar Lourinha, as well as Amelia from different agency.
