Dinner at Mr L’s Restaurant & Bar in South Yarra
Young talent and a Mediterranean magic dining experience is a feature at new Mr L's Bar & Restaurant on Toorak Road.
At Mr L’s Bar & Restaurant, young chefs Evan and Gracia are crafting something extraordinary. This Irish-Spanish duo, whose resumes boast stints at top global kitchens like Noma, have brought their creative spark to vibrant Toorak Road. The energy is palpable—the restaurant was buzzing the night we visited, and for good reason.
We began with Coffin Bay Oysters, brightened by cucumber, paired effortlessly with a crisp G&T. Sharing plates dominate the menu, making it ideal for groups ready to explore the Mediterranean-inspired offerings.
Gracia’s Valencian Paella is a showstopper, steeped in tradition. With prawn bisque, smoked saffron, and that coveted crispy socarrat, it’s a dish brimming with soulful Sunday memories. Meanwhile, Evan’s Irish Guinness Bread with smoky potato butter is pure decadence—a simple dish elevated to perfection.
Each plate feels like a celebration: Sisig Tacos with mango and pork crackling deliver vibrant punches of flavor, while Pan-Roasted Scallops on a bed of buttered corn with lime shine when paired with a refreshing Pinot Gris. The summer-ready Cracked Burrata, Tomato & Vanilla Tarte Tatin dazzles with its inventive sweetness.
For mains, the Wimmera Duck with Jerusalem artichoke and apricot highlights the chefs’ finesse with local produce, while the Whole Boned Barramundi with mandarin and preserved lemon hits all the right notes.
Desserts are equally compelling: the Burnt Basque Espresso Cheesecake is a coffee lover’s dream, while the Popcorn Pannacotta balances dark chocolate and honeycomb with a delightful crunch.✨
Owners Sheena and Lucky have brought their Geelong hospitality magic to South Yarra, creating a warm, welcoming space with a stunning function room and lively atrium Sundays featuring $30 bottomless paella with glass of Sangria.
Chef Gracia’s infectious charm shines as she chats with diners—you can’t help but think she’s destined for a TV show. At Mr L’s, passion, talent, and local produce come together beautifully.
