Yamamoto Udon Brings Handmade Noodles to Melbourne’s CBD
Melbourne-based hospitality group, Wagyu Ya, known for their premium Japanese venues Wagyu Ya, Niku Ou, Yakikami and Wagyu Ya Teppanyaki, has brought its latest culinary venture, Yamamoto Udon, to the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. Opening late last year, located at Shop 12/108 Bourke Street, the specialty udon restaurant delivers an authentic taste of Japan, blending time-old traditions with modern craftsmanship - without the price tag.
Following suit of Wagyu Ya Group’s other venues, each of which specialise in a particular type of cuisine or dining style, Yamamoto Udon continues this vision with its dedication to handcrafted udon. The two types of Japan’s udon Yamamoto Udon have include: Sanuki Udon, celebrated for its thick, bouncy texture, and Himokawa Udon, distinguished by its wide, ribbon-like noodles—freshly handmade each day in a limited batch of just 70 servings. Aged for two days and made fresh with natural ingredients, free from MSG or additives, udon is available from $19 per bowl.
The menu at Yamamoto Udon boasts 18 unique udon flavours, blending tradition with modern twists. From the simple yet satisfying Dipping Udon served hot or cold, to steaming bowls of Soup Udon in a rich dashi broth infused with Asian flavours, there’s something for every palate.
Indulge in creative takes like creamy carbonara-style udon, comforting Kake Udon, and bold, flavourful Curry Udon. Diners can also expect crispy tempura or golden, juicy chicken karaage for the ultimate udon experience.
Blending modern convenience with efficiency, Yamamoto Udon streamlines the dining experience with iPad ordering and a rapid 10-minute serve time, perfect for a quick and hassle-free meal, especially during a lunch break.
Head Chef of Yamamoto Udon, Ryosuke Yasumatau, said, “Crafting udon is a tradition that takes skill, and patience. Our team at Yamamoto brings years of experience in hand-making udon, staying true to the techniques that have been passed down through generations while sharing them with Melbourne.”
He continues “We’re all about combining high-quality ingredients with an accessible price point, making it easy for everyone, whether on a quick lunch break or simply craving something delicious, to enjoy a creative top-notch bowl of udon for just $19.”
Designed with a minimalist yet warm aesthetic, Yamamoto Udon’s interiors reflect the simplicity and elegance of traditional Japanese eateries. Guests will find a welcoming space with timber accents and a relaxed, communal atmosphere, making it an inviting destination for a quick lunch, casual dinner, or a comforting solo meal.
Yamamoto Udon is open daily from 11:30 am to 9:15 pm. For more information visit their website via https://www.yamamotoudon.com.
