Launch of Cockburn's Cocktail Masterclass Series at Marmelo
This October, Cockburn’s is inviting Melburnians to discover Port in a whole new way, hosting a series of intimate cocktail masterclasses every Saturday at Marmelo, the acclaimed modern Portuguese restaurant in Melbourne. We were invited to a media preview of this experience and we were super impressed with the qaulity of the cocktails and the whole experience. Our bar tender host Peter from Marmelo was super knowlegable and we were wonderfully educated in the joy of modern port cocktails.

The sessions will take place in Marmelo’s private dining room and are designed to reframe Port as a contemporary cocktail ingredient. Founded in Portugal’s Douro Valley over 200 years ago, Cockburn’s has long been deeply connected to Portuguese culture, and the choice of Marmelo as its host is a deliberate nod to this heritage.

“Port has an incredible ability to adapt to modern tastes, and our Tails of the Unexpected range is all about encouraging discovery,” said Andrew May, Global Brand Manager for Cockburn’s Port. “These masterclasses at Marmelo are the perfect way to show people how versatile Port can be, whether shaken into a martini, built into a Collins, or stirred into a Negroni.”

Each class will be led by Marmelo’s expert bartenders, who will guide guests through the creation of three cocktails, each designed to showcase a different expression in Cockburn’s Tails of the Unexpected range. From the savoury, floral and citrus notes of the Saltbush & Lemon Geranium Collins, to the spiced sweetness of the Pastel de Negroni, and the rich, herbal depth of the Café Porto Martini, guests will discover the unexpected ways Port can transform a cocktail.

“We’re excited to collaborate with Cockburn’s to showcase the creativity that comes from working with such a unique spirit,” said Marmelo’s Bar Manager and Mixologist Peter Bosen. “Each cocktail highlights a different side of Port, paired with flavours that feel both familiar and surprising, a real reflection of Marmelo’s approach to Portuguese hospitality.”

To round out the experience, each cocktail will be served alongside Portuguese-inspired snacks from Marmelo’s kitchen, designed to complement the drinks and create a complete tasting journey.

The Cockburn’s x Marmelo Cocktail Masterclasses will run every Saturday in October from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, with tickets $45 per person. To book your spot at one of the masterclasses, click here.
