The Boatbuilders Yard - Brunch by the Yarra

The Boatbuilders Yard in South Wharf is an attractive brunch destination by the Yarra. Right next to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre its a European experience by the river. The World Loves Melbourne was invited along to sample a unique breakfast experience.

For a start The Boatbuilders Yard has a cracker view, whether on the deck or inside the building looking out. Here we have South Wharf at its best. The attractive weathered timber meets the Yarra River, and no matter the weather, this is a great view. Groups descended for their morning breakfast including conference attendees and business meetings.

Coffee at The Boatbuilders Yard is excellent and we imbibed a couple of fine lattes.

Personally I was surprised at the number of patrons on a weekday morning  - pretty much packed out, with corporates and conference goers the main patronage. Check out the queue at the counter to pay - with table service the order of the day when you arrive.

The breakfast menu has something for everyone. Recommended were the RICOTTA AND GOJI BUCKWHEAT HOTCAKES - ORGANIC QUARK, PURE MAPLE SYRUP, BLACKBERRIES, CHIA AND WHITE CREAM. My mate enjoyed these hotcakes as fresh and not too heavy with delectable accompaniments. The presentation was first class.

I was keen for the Bean Braise featuring CANNELLINI BEAN BRAISE - DOUBLE SMOKED BACON AND CHORIZO W/ SOURDOUGH / ADD POACHED EGG (GFO). The portion was generous and the braise was tasty with chorizo and bacon smoky flavours permeating. This was the perfect start to the day in Melbourne winter. Rustic and hearty.

We also had our eye on the PULLED PORK JAFFLE - BLACK CHERRY CHUTNEY, PANELA CHEESE W/ MUSTARD PICKLES - but I was greedy for the larger braise meal.

All the while there was that amazing view...

The Boatbuilders Yard also serves up an excellent lunch and in spring and summer fires up the bbq flavours - we can vouch for the bbq treats.

The Boatbuilders Yard is full of atmosphere and friendly staff made the visit even more enjoyable. Our waitress was super helpful and full of excellent recommendations. Simply outstanding.

Working across the river in Docklands I'm keen to return...
