2014 Emirates Melbourne Cup Carnival Marquee
Modern sophistication, fairy-tale fantasy and exquisite cultural diversity… Emirates is bringing Germany to the Flemington Birdcage for 2014.
In Emirates’ 17th year of involvement with the Victoria Racing Club and 11th year as Principal Partner of the Emirates Melbourne Cup, the marquee’s fit-out and design will be taken to a whole new level of modern luxury.Emirates will welcome guests on an unforgettable journey through Germany, heralding the airline’s expansive route network of four German destinations – Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Dusseldorf.
The fairy-tale façade of Germany’s most famous architectural icon – Neuschwanstein Castle, complete with turrets, flags and towers – will greet race-goers as the largest and most impressive marquee of the Birdcage, with a prime view over the racecourse. Taking inspiration from the 2014 Berlin International Design Festival, the marquee will feature bright pieces of furniture to pop against the crisp, fresh interior; a surprising mix of tradition with bold design strokes. Far from biergartens and bratwurst – the interior of the marquee will honour a cool and contemporary Germany, with exquisite detailing and exceptional finishes.
Bryan Banston, Emirates Vice President Australasia, said that the marquee would showcase a captivating side of Germany. “As one of Emirates’ most popular European destinations, we felt that this year’s Emirates Melbourne Cup masterpiece should pay homage to the historic and contemporary architecture of this vibrant financial powerhouse of a country.”
“Since 1987 when flights to Germany first commenced, Emirates has been proud to transport 5.5 million passengers to Germany. Each week, our 84 Australian services conveniently connect with 63 flights per week from Dubai to Germany, including three daily A380 services from September, when Frankfurt receives the double decker, complementing the existing Munich service.”
“We look forward to unveiling what will be a truly memorable Melbourne Cup Carnival race experience for our VIP guests, and in turn, welcoming global travelers onboard our young fleet of impressive aircraft when they next travel to our German destinations – four of 37 European destinations and all part of our expansive global route network of more than 140 destinations in 81 countries worldwide.”
The exclusive guest list will be treated to an impressive menu of German-inspired delicacies, expressive of the country’s iconic cuisine with a modern twist, which has evolved through many centuries of social and political change.
As always, the Emirates marquee will host the Birdcage’s only fully serviced, sit-down restaurant, with 10 qualified chefs working over the four days to cater to guests, while the process is managed and overseen by the trained eye of Head Chef, Tony Cimmino.
Entertainment will also reflect the German theme, to be announced in due course, and promises to provide race-goers with excitement across the week.
