Eastern Golf Club Degustation Before Big Move

Eastern Golf Club is one of the most iconic clubs in Melbourne with 110 years of history and is soon on its way to an exciting new state of the art Greg Norman Course in Yering in Yarra Valley. The World Loves Melbourne has a fond affinity with Eastern Golf Club in terms of its amazing degustations, breaking the mindset of golf club food. While the club serves the staple food for members during the week, their monthly degustations have been a revelation. The World Loves Melbourne was invited to their final degustation before their big move to the Yarra Valley. A new chef has been engaged for the new golf club and the future is looking bright in terms of golf and club facilities.

The new facilities in Yarra Valley open on July 1 and already have the feel of a country club with state of the art practice facilities, a pro shop, sheltered areas, a Teaching Academy with technology to monitor your swing, and superb accommodation and dining facilities. In a nutshell the new facilities are world class, with a course designed by Greg Norman. Some 27 holes for championship golf and another 9 holes for Par 3 are exceptional and capture iconic views and landscapes of the Yarra Valley. The new facilities also include a series of modern chalets known as Yering Gorge Cottages, each with a golf cart. The list goes on with tennis courts, mountain biking, fishing, walking trails and kids games rooms. Grab a family or couples golf getaway!

Eastern Gold Club is patronised by well heeled members. The World Loves Melbourne enjoyed the conviviality of the evening and hearing about recent members' trips to Augusta for the US Masters. The World Loves Melbourne is a golfer but we haven't played for some time - needing to dust off the clubs.

The Jerusalem Artichoke Veloute with whipped goat's cheese and thyme crumble was the perfect autumn seasonal dish with creaminess and crunch.

A highlight was this Shredded beef brisket and potato pithivier, mushroom and rosemary ragout, and dijon brush. This food compares to some of Melbourne's finest establishments and chef Glenn can be proud of his sophisticated and rewarding dishes.

Eastern Golf Club is generous to members and these degustation dinners are heavily subsidised. I was looking for iconic member Les Smith who just turned 100 and still gets around the course, having been a member for 68 years! Wow! Give the guy a mulligan!

We were grateful for the superb hospitality shown by Chris O'Callaghan, the new Food and Beverage Manager of Eastern Golf Club previously from Crown.

Pan seared Cone Bay barramundi, green lentil cassoulet, saffron beurre monte was another superb dish in line with a trend to healthier eating.

Credit was given to Glenn Townsend for his fine cooking by Club President Des Shady.

Dessert also excited with this Baked pears and walnut tart, cardomom caramel, and vanilla bean ice cream.

Eastern Golf Club has been voted Victorian club of the year and we look forward to their new adventure in Yering. A superb evening.
