New Summer Menu at Fowles Wines
Looking for a stunning winery destination with views not too far from Melbourne? Summer at Fowles Wines in the Strathbogie Ranges is an invitation to experience country hospitality at its finest. Just a 90-minute drive from Melbourne, this winery delivers stunning views, impeccable service, and a culinary experience rooted in quality produce and thoughtful execution.
Samantha and I kicked things off in the garden, glass of Pinot Gris in hand, surrounded by native plants, the iconic sheep paddock, and the Ginger Prince Garden Bar—a destination in itself. (Pro tip: their weekend Bottomless Brunch is a must-try.)
Dinner in the restaurant was an event to remember (plus it was our anniversary), starting with Kingfish Crudo accented by blood orange and lime honey—freshness personified. Tofu Tacos with garden-fresh salsa verde, recommended by our exceptional host Patrick, delivered a delightful plant-based punch.
For mains, the Harissa Lamb Rump was a slice of heaven —tender, boldly seasoned, and generously portioned—while the signature Pork Belly remained an undeniable favorite. Side dishes, including farm-fresh greens and crispy fries with aioli, complemented the mains beautifully.
Paired with their Stonedwellers Sparkling Pinot Noir and the 2021 Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch Wild Ferment Shiraz (what a wine!), the flavors of the dishes were enhanced.
Desserts brought the meal full circle: a perfectly spiced Carrot Cake and a seasonal Crumble that celebrated the region’s fruit.
The wines, under the direction of new winemaker Matt Harrop, showcase finesse and innovation. From the buttery, oak-touched Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch Riesling to the powerful Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch Shiraz and globally adored Ginger Wine Range (growing global popularity), Fowles is making its mark.
With generous portions, award-winning wines, and a legendary garden backdrop, Fowles Wines is a summer destination where country warmth meets sophistication. Cheers to visionary owner Matt Fowles and his talented team.
