Sensational Seafood Frenzy at The Smith
Seafood Frenzy at The Smith in Prahran has become a highlight on the culinary calendar and The World Loves Melbourne was invited along to experience optimum seafood and a pumping ambience.
This is about top quality seafood prepared by top chefs and backed up by brilliant service. With Director and Executive Chef Michael Lambie at the helm, The Smith know how to pull off epic events, and Seafood Frenzy has become a premium event in Melbourne.
We arrived crazy for seafood. Seafood Frenzy began with a welcome glass of Laurent Perrier upon arrival, and it wasn't long before the seafood appeared. It was a case of waves of premium seafood, as not only could you help yourself to a seafood buffet but staff were constantly roaming the dining space laden with plates of seafood. This was seafood bliss...
Seafood Frenzy is super popular, following the success of previous events at The Smith. The venue was packed, and appeared to be the trendy crew with hardly a bogan in sight. I have to mention the outstanding service throughout the evening, with Scottie Borg watching over a super attentive team. These guys were constantly "on the go" roaming and serving seafood, and constantly cleaning tables and bowls full of shells.
On trend, the seafood dishes had a distinctly Asian influence. Check out these Prawn cocktails w avocado and green chilli. The Smith doesn't just lob up some seafood but comes at you with style and panache.
Seafood Frenzy features a plethora of first class oysters, with The Smith going through thousands on the night. These oysters above were served with champagne dressing and steamed with ginger and soy.
Seafood Frenzy is not just about volumes but about quality and finesse, as with these Soft shelled crab tortillas w black beans and avocado...
Delicate Kingfish sashimi w mango and coconut cream was a delectable offering...
We couldn't get enough of these fresh oysters...
Everyone's best friend was the dude who cooked the Prawn skewers on the BBQ w garlic and chilli. We loved his style in cooking batches of 5 or 6 at a time, then serving them up to the long line of punters. Most customers took 2 or 3 at a time, then lined up for more. Yeah, a frenzy!
Seared tuna tataki w green papaya salad and wasabi dressing was also popular and plentiful...
The bar was packed with Laurent Perrier champagne being the drink of choice, as well as a welcome Little Creatures promotion.
Milk bun, tempura rockling, kewpie mayo was addictive...
Seared Atlantic Salmon w tomato and basil...
Not to mention the Roast Wild Barramundi w bok choy and black bean dressing...
Seafood Frenzy at The Smith is an annual event that celebrates seafood and is well worth the entry fee. You don't leave bloated but leave on a high realising you've been at a classy event with seafood presented in a superb way. I can understand why people keep coming back to the Seafood Frenzy. And I can also understand why The Smith has a name for cuisine and events that is the envy of others. Highly recommended.
