Drystore Espresso - It's a Beautiful World
Drystore is an exciting new cafe for office workers on Lonsdale at the home of iconic restaurant Seamstress. It pulsates with fresh energy, the coffee is great, and the fit out is superb. The food is to echo the influence of big brother Seamstress, who in recent months employed an exciting new Head Chef.
As an avid reader of Epicure and seeing Drystore had just opened I was there the next day (a few weeks after Drystore's doors had opened). I've been to Seamstress and always wondered about the space downstairs and how it was utilised. Apparently there used to be a cafe there in times gone by. The owners wanted a cafe expression of the business and Drystore was conceived.
Drystore is an inviting cafe to enjoy from the inside but also does a roaring trade on take away coffee through the large open doors on to Lonsdale.
The dudes that run Drystore are passionate, engaging and professional and their ideas and flair is inspiring. I spent 20 minutes or so chatting with the guys as they poured coffee for the masses. Barista David Barron from Glasgow is an engaging character and pours amazing coffee.
All the while the songs of Devo were playing through the speakers giving me flashbacks of my time as frontman for a new wave/punk band years ago. I imagine Devo would love Drystore. The space is eclectic with shiny silk garments suspended from hangers above (a la Seamstress above). Exposed brick and smart stools adds to the ambience, along with natural light streaming through the large windows. Not to mention a view into the Seamstress kitchen.
I ordered a strong latte and it was superb in terms of texture and flavour. The coffee of choice here is Gravity and the blend was quite exotic. Drystore may also include guest Roasters in time.
Food will reflect the menu at Seamstress but will be simple yet creative fare to suit a cafe environment. I'm excited. Whip it good!
Drystore also offers a loyalty reward by stamping an old school ticket. Very creative. Drystore Espresso is a place I want to return to. Use your freedom of choice.
