Optic Kitchen and Bar - Fed Square Brilliance
Optic Kitchen and Bar is a stunning option in Federation Square with its modern fit out and fine cuisine at reasonable prices. It was a revelation to this culture, fashion and Melbourne food blog. After an exciting makeover of the previous lounge, Optic Kitchen and Bar provides a great destination for those visiting the Australian Centre for Moving Images and the ACMI Cinemas, or those simply visiting Fed Square. It boasts a fabulous outlook onto Fed Square through the large window.
Dining in Fed Square can be a hit and miss affair. Some outlets seem to play on the iconic nature of Fed Square and the experience doesn't quite deliver. But Optic Kitchen and Bar is geared to satisfy with a great dining experience which is realistic and without pretension.
There is a relaxed ambience at Optic Kitchen and Bar. The fit out is modern. You can relax in the green leather booths with friends, or the large comfy lounge chairs around a game of chess. Or dine at the modern chunky timber tables or the communal tables with funky stools. The lighting is also modern with spotlights and funky coverings, and the flooring impressive with stone, timber and mosaic tiles. The ambience is fabulous and fits well with the arts precinct.
The menu offers excellent choice of sample, share or dine. You can enjoy a simple sandwich or cake through to a large portion of Lamb cutlet. This flexibility is appreciated. Popular menu options are under the $20 mark and are great value including the Soft shell crab taquitos, the Char grilled lamb cutlet, the 200g Aged porterhouse and the Beetroot tart tatin.
The Chicken burger with Asian slaw is a great burger with perfectly cooked chicken, the crunch of flavoursome Asian slaw and a superb brioche bun. I loved this burger.
The crispy golden chips were a great accompaniment.
