Betty's Burgers the Real Burger Deal
Betty's Burgers & Concrete Co. came to Melbourne with a formidable reputation as one of the best burger houses in Australia. The World Loves melbourne was invited along to see if Betty's Burgers was the real deal and a serious burger contender. I'm a serious burger critic - looking for tons of variables such as whether the bun holds together, through to char on the patty and the excellence of the cheese. Would Betty's Burgers stack up?
The location of Betty's Burgers is front and centre in the heart of the city on Elizabeth St. I arrived to find a packed lunchtime gathering. It was amusing to see a couple of office workers sit at my reserved table and refuse to leave for another table - they must be burger lovers. I was given another table for my lunchtime soiree. From the get go I could see this is a well planned burger house that gives what the punters are looking for. Burgers start at reasonable prices and you can build from there.
Personally I like to see a double patty burger in any menu - and you can here - just order the extra patty. I met my match though with the popular Betty's Classic Stack. (I prefer the word "stack" to "tower"). This burger combines the Betty's Classic with Angas Beef and the Shroom Burger - then add pickles and bacon for a monumental tasty burger. With sriracha mayo sauce for some kick!
The bun held the burger together well, there was decent char on the suitably seasoned patty, the oozy cheese was perfect and the shroom added to the flavour of the burger. I wasn't used to the hit of salad on a burger (extensive lettuce) but it all worked well. What I was left with was a large, well balanced and fresh burger. Yes I would come back for this.
I wanted fries but the manager enticed me to get the Onion Rings and I wasn't disappointed.
CONCRETE FROZEN CUSTARD! Spiced Pecan & Banana Cream Pudding! Vanilla custard, Dello Mano spiced pecans, sticky date pudding, salted caramel sauce, banana cream. Dense custard blended at speed. You can design your own concrete. Betty's Burgers is not just famous for burgers but also their concrete frozen. Rich and creamy how we like it!
With a couple of beers this is a decent feed.
