Exclusive Dinner at Moutai Boutique
The world’s most valuable liquor brand has landed in Melbourne, with the opening of the Melbourne Moutai Boutique on Exhibition Street. We were privileged to experience an unforgettable four course dinner and tasting of Moutai.
Located in the heart of Melbourne’s Chinatown, the new store is designed to provide Melburnians with the opportunity to fall in love with the most revered of all Chinese liquors. We were privileged to be among the first to experience the amazing Moutai at a four course dinner with the food from Fable Melbourne complimenting our Moutai tasting.
One of the most sought after spirits in the world, Moutai is still relatively unknown within the Australian market. The new store aims to change that by giving locals the chance to experience this prestigious and highly complex drink – which has a fascinating history dating back 2,000 years.
First offered as tribute to the Wu Emperor of the Han Dynasty, Moutai is a style of baijiu (a Chinese spirit). It is produced in a town of the same name in the Guizhou Province in the south-west of China.
Moutai’s traditional craftsmanship, handed down through generations, involves the meticulous selection of premium ingredients and a carefully executed fermentation and distillation process. Each bottle is a testament to the meticulous dedication and patience exhibited during its production, with a minimum aging process of five years.
Guests at the Melbourne Moutai Boutique store can choose from a variety of options to experience Moutai’s complex and rich flavours. The interior of the store, designed by T-A Square architects, takes inspiration from the iconic Moutak bottles rippled shape.
The intimate, circular space seats 12-guests at time, with tasting flights, single drinks or cocktails on the menu. Those who truly want to immerse themselves in the world of Moutai can opt for the full masterclass experience.
During this ritual, which comprises 78 steps and is rooted in the ancient ceremony of baijiu, the Moutai Sommelier guides guests on a journey to the birthplace of Moutai, allowing them to experience the essence of Moutai's culture and to understand its unique and complex flavours.
Guests can also purchase Moutai’s range of products directly from the store, with the highly coveted Moutai Flying Fairy available at a price of $518. Moutai is also proudly certified as organic and vegan.
The Moutai team also have various collaborations in the works with local Melbourne businesses, including restaurants and bars such as Fable Melbourne. Following on from successful partnerships in Sydney, Moutai-infused coffee and gelato collaborations will also follow. These will be rolled out over the coming months.
After softly opening in early-July, the Melbourne Moutai Boutique officially opens this week. It is located at 193-195 Exhibition Street, Melbourne (on the corner of Little Bourke Street). It is open from 11:00am to 8:00pm, 7-days a week.
