Dimattina's 30 Kerr 65
Coffee powerhouse Dimattina’s has opened a sublime coffee outlet at 30 Kerr StreetFitzroy (either approach from Nicholson Street or walk across from Brunswick Street). The outlet is only in its second week and already popular among locals.
The name 30 Kerr 65 is a play on the address 30 and the number 65 being the end part of the Fitzroy postcode - and 65 is of course a significant number in coffee temperature. This Melbourne cafe is a hit prediction. One of the best things to do in Melbourne is visit 30 Kerr 65 early in the morning as the sun streams through the windows for a coffee fix. This Melbourne food blog reviewer was able to call in before work in the CBD...
Fitzroy is known for excellent cafes and restaurants but locals have bemoaned a lack of top class coffee establishments.
Winners of the gold medal at The Golden Bean award for 2011/12, Dimattina’s have developed the frontage of their Kerr St Warehouse. Speaking with John Dimattina, there is a proud tradition at Dimattina and this latest development adds to their highly successful retail outlet at 173 Clarendon Street in South Melbourne and the one in Reservoir.
With shiny new equipment, and an attractive fit out this is sure to please. A long timber table with stools, concrete floor, timber panelling and a cool diagram of the coffee process on the wall.
Several blends are on offer including the house blend Prima Tazza. The Hyper Hyper blend is a strong Italian robust blend (and good for a stove top). The Utopia blend is strong but smooth. Another big seller is their Decaf blend.
The focus here is coffee but Dimattina are introducing simple food options in the near future.
Dimattina’s has been a dominant name in the Melbourne coffee scene for years and supplies many coffee houses across Melbourne and regional Victoria. Beginning in the 1950s with their father roasting coffee, Dimatina’s are coffee wholesalers offering premium coffee blends. They also run a huge plant at Reservoir and a training school in South Melbourne.
You can grab some beans here – they will write your name on the front of the packet. Or buy some serious coffee equipment – maybe a Giotto machine for your home.
The barista Melissa is a local identity and adds great character and skill (as well as marketing and design prowess).
