Celebrating 10 years of Meatmaiden
Looking for a stellar steakhouse in Melbourne? After a decade in the game, Meatmaiden has solidified its place as one of Melbourne’s premier steakhouses, but this popular restaurant is so much more than just a meat joint. Meatmaiden with owners Neil and Haley has evolved into a sleek, indulgent destination for those in the know, steering clear of the typical hype but packing out even on a Tuesday night.
It’s the sort of place where the well-heeled gather for an elevated experience, yet with a laid-back vibe. And now, in celebration of their 10-year milestone, they’re offering 10 dishes over 10 days to Sat 19/10, reimagining classics that have helped define their success.
On our visit, it was clear how far Meatmaiden has come. We kicked things off with a Chopped Wagyu Tartare from 2018, a rich combination of premium steak, beetroot relish and crisps. The Smokey Old Fashioned was a fitting companion, echoing the restaurant’s
The Grilled Bread with “Cowboy” butter was a showstopper in its simplicity. Charred Octopus with Nashville sauce brought seafood into the mix with finesse, while a Tempura Zucchini Flower from 2021 reminded us of how much creativity lies behind the menu.
Standouts continued with a Pigs Head Croquette, Lobster Mac & Cheese (presented as a side) that almost stole the show, Charred greens, Hand-cut chips, and BBQ Lamb Ribs, melt-in-your-mouth decadence from 2016. The Westholme Wagyu New York Strip hit all the right notes, perfect with a premium French Malbec, served alongside impeccable sauces.
Old Fashioned Crème Caramel was a delicious dessert.
In the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, Meatmaiden is an underground icon of the city that is thriving. From the sleek bar to the enticing meat display cabinet, the atmosphere is as rich as the food. And with exciting things on the horizon, it’s clear their best years are still ahead.
