The Kettle Black All Style in South Yarra

The Kettle Black is all style, located on Albert Road near the Domain Interchange. The World Loves Melbourne was struck by the design and ambience of this cafe (Studio You Me), and the food complements the architecture with its beauty. Lofty spaces with large windows inside, and a kind of European outdoor cool outside. We love the white walls and green themes.

Coffee is excellent with both indoor and outdoor coffee stations. We checked out the menu and were impressed with an emphasis on Victorian fresh produce such as Robbins Island meat and King Island seafood. We were tempted to order the popular Hotcakes with House Made Ricotta but we were told the wait can be 15-20 minutes and we only had just over 30 minutes to dine before a business meeting.

A popular item on the menu has been the King Island Crayfish in an Ash roll with native coastal spinach featuring generous portion of crayfish inside a brioche bun. It's a simple dish keeping the crayfish as the hero, and compares with lobster rolls around town as largish and with excellent yuzu mayo and the native spinach greens. A squeeze of lime doesn't go astray. The presentation was first class with the roll served on the dark stone plate.

Anything that is the brainchild of Jesse McTavish, Nathan Coleman, as well as partners Ben Clark, Diamond Rozakeas, Tim James and Sam King already has a heritage of success and ability to tap into the Melbourne cafe scene as cutting edge.

Coffee is from popular 5 Senses with a rotating single origin. The World Loves Melbourne perched on a stool along the long counter. Marble bench and modern tiling with plants is an attractive look. This is the place to come if you want to meet up with someone in style. Check the Victorian architecture below.

This space is packed on a weekday lunch time let alone weekends...

Doughboy Donuts and other assorted treats are alluring inside the cabinet.

Staff are super friendly and helpful. Our Crayfish roll was out within minutes despite a packed house. The Kettle Black puts its hand up for stylish cafes of Melbourne mixing Victorian elegance with modern style. Highly recommended.
