The World Loves Melbourne Music
It must have been 2002. I don’t know for sure but I know it was around that time. I know because I can’t find anything about it on Google and because my smartphone wasn’t invented yet to take photographic evidence. It was February, THAT I remember, actually it was my best friends Birthday. But instead of spending it with him like all of his other friends I chose to go and see his favourite band… without him… P.O.D.
I must have been 18 or 19 and whilst I’d already been to what seemed like hundreds of other shows by that time this one was different. I did all the things you do at that age; I lined up early, I got front row with my chest pressed hard against the crowd barrier, I grabbed the mic as the singer leant into the crowd and gave it my best shot singing along with him… It was sweaty, smelly and uncomfortable and yet for some reason, that night at the Corner Hotel, I knew that this is exactly where I wanted to be for the rest of my life.
Cool story Adam, how the hell do I get that 5 minutes back?! Well, you don’t. That’s the bad news. The good news is that I am now officially writing for The World Loves Melbourne and it is my job to cover all things Melbourne music.
Coming here you’ll see interviews with bands, reviews of anything from film clips to live performances, song premieres and news of upcoming tours. So long as they are based in Melbourne, from Melbourne or touring Melbourne then we’d love to be writing about them.
So what makes me the right guy for the job?! That’s a good question, and thank you for asking. Firstly, and most obviously, I live in Melbourne. I think that’s fairly important when establishing one’s credentials for writing articles on a blog like this. Secondly, I love music. Almost all forms of it. There are obviously genre’s that I personally appreciate more than others, but I like to think I can remove myself enough as to present to you fair and unbiased articles on any style of music. I guess time will tell...
Less importantly (and I honestly mean that) is that music is my way of life. I am actually musically illiterate, but have had some success running my own touring and management company over the last few years. I’m not just writing these articles because I ‘like’ music I’m writing them because I love it. I have risked my entire wellbeing on promoting it, on building it, on developing it and on experiencing it.
To put it frankly, I am stoked to be writing for you. I hope that over time you forgive me for my bad humour, my obsession with stories and my terrible photography skills. But most importantly, together, this place can become an arena where we can all enjoy the music together.
