Join the Ice Skating Fun at Eastland
Attention all shoppers, Ice Skating is back in Ringwood with the launch of an Ice Skating rink in the Town Square at Eastland, running through until the end of August. The World Loves Melbourne was invited to a family event where we became one of the first to experience the ice skating fun at Eastland (our local).
Ringwood’s Town Square is coming alive this winter after Eastland launched its own custom built, all weather iceskating rink. Shopping centres are not just about shopping only these days - other fun and entertainment attractions and activities are the way to go!
We enjoyed generous array of food at the launch from surrounding food venues at Eastland Town Square including these Saganaki's from Jimmy Grants!
Guests can take a magical journey under the starry lights and discover a world of wintery wonder. Eastland’s ice-skating rink offers a trip down memory lane for local community members given Ringwood was the home of Australia’s first custom-built ice-skating rink, Iceland, which closed its doors in 2005.
Lavezzi was on hand at the launch event serving hot chocolate - and we learned they are serving up waffles this winter!
Doughnuts were a hit - especially with awesome custard fillings from Brioche by Philip. Bronuts are a thing.
The 200 square metre rink glows with festoon lights. Surrounded by snow-topped trees, it features curated music for skating, provide skate loan and a viewing area with seating. With impressive design, 3600 metres of under-ice tubing keeps the ice maintained at -12 degrees for optimum skating.
Speeches celebrated the success of the venture and the great addition the Ice Skating rink is to Eastland, with a nod to the nostalgia of yesteryear with the old Ice Skating rink that closed in 2005. Mayor Tony Dib even donned some skates for a session on the ice!
Eastland General Manager Steve Edgerton says the ice skating rink is a long awaited addition to the precinct. “Throughout its 35-years in operation, Iceland was an integral part of the community. Many of our local community have fond memories of skating and visiting Iceland. We are very pleased to establish an ice skating rink here at Eastland for families to enjoy throughout winter."
Designed to operate during rain, hail or shine the rink combats winter blues and has become a ‘must-do’ during the school holidays.
It is expected more than 20,000 skaters will visit, which will remain open until Thursday 31 August.
Entry is free for shoppers who spend $20 at Ringwood’s Town Square, a culinary hotspot featuring Jimmy Grants, 400 Gradi, Huxtaburger, Pacos Tacos, Ang Ang, Brioche by Philip, Hunky Dory, Kyoto Café, Lavezzi Gelato, Caffee Stazione, Thai Alley, Hunter & Barrel, The Cellar Door and Golden Duck. The World Loves Melbourne thinks we've visited them all!
On selected Sunday mornings the rink will be open to local children and adults with disabilities to encourage participation on the ice in a safe and secure environment.
Eastland is located at 175 Maroondah Highway, Ringwood and is a premier shopping precinct in the region.
The World Loves Melbourne would like to thank 400 Gradi for their generous lunch for those attending the launch event. We have visited 400 Gradi many times and love the range of food but of course we are huge fans of the Napoli style of pizza they are famous for!
Also big thanks to Kate & Co for another fabulous event.
Eastland ice rink opening times: Monday – Wednesday: 11am – 8pm Thursday – Saturday: 11am – 10pm Sunday: 11am – 9pm
