Wynyard Cafe Loves Melbourne

When Giddiup’s neighbour, Made in Japan (MIJ), announced they were moving to Wynyard Lane in South Melbourne, the Giddiup crew jumped at the chance to move in next door.

Wynyard’s space mimics the minimalist aesthetics of MIJ with its understated white washed walls and polished concrete floors.  Outside, locals, young families and the Sunday brunch active-wear set are casually seated on brightly coloured crates. However the best assets are the cafe’s crockery with beautiful plates and pieces all from MIJ.

Here the coffee is fantastic with Sydney's Single Origin Roasters being the beans of choice, producing a punchy, creamy brew.  And for those who are after a fancy infusion, there’s single origin and a smooth pour- over coffee, along with almond milk made in house.

Food- wise the menu is fresh and focused: Contemporary- retro dishes are bought to life with playful twists and there’s a smart list of delicious bagels. Including the seriously good smoked salmon number with caper berries and cream cheese.

For those on the jog there are hearty baguettes and sandwiches, along with gluten-free banana bread and nutritious house-made muesli bars for that guilt-free snacking.  Wynyard ticks all the boxes so giddy up to this new laneway escape.

Early Burger



This crowd favourite packs a punch with a lightly toasted bun, crisp bacon and softly fried eggs. Potato rosti adds a welcomed crunch, nicely balanced with freshly sliced avocado and rocket. It’s everything you would want from a breakfast burger.

Pumpkin, poached eggs & kale



For a healthy start to the day without skimping on flavour this roast pumpkin dish will keep you going for hours. Slightly charred, the pumpkin is juicy and soft, with broccolini and candied macadamias adding pop and texture to the dish.

House tea smoked salmon & potato rosti




An absolute highlight dish is the house tea smoked salmon. Perfectly cooked, the salmon is tender with the tea smoke adding a heightened flavour to the fish.
