Fratelli Fresh a Refreshing Italian Restaurant
Fratelli Fresh impressed the World Loves Melbourne on a quick dinner before the theatre. Sure we can't totally judge a restaurant on a quick dinner but our experience and impressions were positive.
Diners can enjoy the casual charm and good value for which Fratelli is famed from a light-filled, laid-back dining room with signature red and white décor. The menu boasts over 25 dishes for under $20 and a six-course menu for $55.
Seated at the horse shoe-shaped, marble-topped pizza counter guests can watch 48-hour, natural fermented, hand stretched, thin-crust pizzas topped with premium ingredients pulled from the warm glow of the wood-fired oven.
The produce-driven opening menu spans everything from antipasti, to pasta and risotto, and wood-grilled premium meats and fish, including T Bone Florentina that is dry-aged on site and carved off the bone. The chef’s signature ‘Abbacchio alla Romana”, Roman-style lamb on the bone with parmesan crust, is the perfect dish for two to share. Desserts include Fratelli’s memorable tiramisu, Venetian doughnuts, Sicilian cannoli and a selection of house-churned gelato.
Guests can ease their way into dinner at Fratelli Bar during aperitivo hour from 3pm-6pm, when $5 wine, beer and spirits are on offer, alongside $10 Spritzers and Negroni on tap.
Get a table at the horseshoe shaped counter overlooking the pizza oven and watch The Atomic being created. This is not just any wood fire pizza; this is a 48 hour natural slow-ferment Roman style wood fire pizza.…with layers of Salami Inferno, Fennel Salami, Fior di Latte and Green Chilli. It's almost romantic - if The Atomic doesn’t create a bit of heat between you and your date…nothing will.
A pizza (The Atomic) was all I had time for before heading off to We Will Rock You at The Regent Theatre nearby (fabulous show by the way). The atomic had some real "kick" and is a standout pizza with quality ingredients and decent crust.
Things I liked about Fratelli Fresh -
Excellent fit out and ambience
Greeted on arrival
Personal service from floor manager
Seated at the counter for theatre (chatting to the chefs and watching them work, with wood oven nearby)
Meal arrived in minutes (after explaining I was after a quick pre-theatre dinner my meal arrived in liteally minutes)
Beer arrived in minutes
Staff were attentive and friendly
Prices are reasonable
So although it was a short visit I was able to deduce several positives from my dining experience.
As an added bonus, the Fratelli Fresh menu has over 25 dishes for under $20 so it won’t break the bank. We look forward to returning for more...
