Intimate Trumpy Bar in Thornbury

The World Loves Melbourne was invited to the Spring Menu Launch under the guidance of new head chef Aaron Read for the ultra cool Trumpy Bar in Thornbury.

Trumpy bar exists in a converted warehouse with bright blue doors and is the brainchild of four hospitality veterans; Jay Rayner (Shadow Electric), Jamie McEntee and bartenders Andrew Leonedas and Guy Barker.

Trumpy 1

The intimate, fire lit bar focuses more on doing simple things well than trying to break new ground. This is reflected in their succinct list of beers and whiskies. Local and Europeans favourites we know and love cover the beer front, while wines includes crowd pleasers but are interesting enough to keep wine buffs engaged.

The food has a slightly European slant and portions are suitable for both a hungry person or shared. Some of the dishes we tried were the hot smoked mackerel with Danish rye bread Buffalo mozzarella with local Spring vegetables. Gorgeous flavours.

Another was the melt in your mouth Cone Bay barramundi with baby cos and radish. Even the sides are divine as the heirloom carrot salad is one of the best I have tasted with goats milk labneh, spelt and red mustard leaves.

The north’s best-kept secret, is soon to be the most talked about bar in Thornbury. Trumpy offers a laid-back haven for beers, cocktails, music and snacks. They call themselves a neighbourhood bar, but they’re a lot more versatile than that – think date night or a Sunday Session. Whatever you fancy, make Trumpy your new go-to meeting spot.
