It was awesome to meet humble, humorous and visionary CEO Lawrence Dowd; someone you want to have a beer with!

The night was hosted by beer personality and blogger Kirrily Waldhorn, who was joined by well-known guests including chef Hayden Quinn, social influencer Aisha Jade, singer Nussy, model Brooke Hogan & partner Myles Pitt, as well as Bulldogs players Easton Wood and Jordan Roughead. And of course David Hagger from The World Loves Melbourne.

Inside the industrial space, guests were treated to a custom craft beer infused menu, designed by Colonial Leisure Group executive chef Lindsay Jamison, as well as sampling each of the newly launched core craft beers, including classic Draught, I.P.A., Pale Ale, and Small Ale.

The evening was styled as a modern beer garden within the working brewery, set under a canopy forest of eucapltyus trees. Guests enjoyed an acoustic set by Gena Rose Bruce, a demonstration of their state of the art canning line, and live art by artist & Colonial Brewing Co collaborator, Ian Mutch – the designer of their Small Ale can artwork. Guests were invited to watch a short film, explaining the brands origins in the wilds of WA’s Margaret River coastline, where Colonial Brewing Co tapped its first keg in 2004, and how today that little brewery is now a humming venue loved by locals, set in an idyllic location.

Colonial Brewing Co’s national general manager, Lawrence Dowd, addressed and welcomed guests, going on to explain how off the back of their success at home in WA, Colonial Brewing Co was then able to open their Port Melbourne brewery, allowing them to triple their production capacity and now bring their craft beers to the east coast. “Port Melbourne is home to the East side of brewing. Inspired by music, Melbourne’s laneways and the dynamic craft beer market, Colonial Brewing Co is a small brewery living the big city life.

Our brewers here are local guys making local beers, inspired by the ever-changing craft beer culture” he said. The World Loves Melbourne loved the character and passion of the brewers!

A sumptous dinner with matching Colonial Brewing Co craft beers was a highlight! Done so well.  I have to say the Small Ale mid strength beer was packed with big flavour; I could stay on this for a "sesh".

The food and the setting were divine; but the craft beer stole the show!

The brewery has also pioneered the trend of canning in favour of bottles within the Australian craft beer industry, as one of the only brands delivering their premium product in the more sustainable, cost effective and conscientious choice of cans.

Their focus on innovation has also led them to become the first Australian brewery to introduce 360 lids into market across a majority of their range, allowing consumers to remove the entire lid of the can to imitate the ideal beer drinking experience in a convenient way; through a glass allowing the beer to appropriately aerate. “Colonial Brewing Co does things a little differently, because we like to live by the motto – live uncomplicated. It's why we created a range of crafted cans that could go where you go and do what you do, from the bar to a barbie, a festival to the footy. Our canned craft beer range has none of the hassles & restrictions of glass, allowing us to take part in more events, and causing less hassle for our drinkers” said Lawrence Dowd, National General Manager at Colonial Brewing Co.

We drank a Pale Ale can straight off the production line; you can't get any fresher than that!

The Colonial Brewing Co approach to what they do is driven by the creative attitude of a craft brewery, but with state of the art resources & equipment behind it, allowing them the framework to brew truly premium craft beers. “We are for the people. We're not just for hipsters, or surfers or beer snobs. Our brewers are regular blokes who love and brew good beer” said Lawrence Dowd, National General Manager at Colonial Brewing Co.
