Sake - Pre-Show at the Bar

Sake is a Sydney sensation that has entered the Melbourne scene next to Hamer Hall. It plays all the right notes and is a great choice for dining pre-show (as we did). Having been delayed by traffic we only had 20 minutes to eat which limited our options.

The staff at Sake are adept and flexible and accomodating our crazy time frame was met with ease. I highly recommend Sake at any time but its the perfect place to visit before a show/event/performance. Also check it out on a sunny Melbourne day - superb by the river...

Sake offers a sharp and chic fit out with great use of different textures, colour and a leaning to Japanese styles. Either experience the Japanese atmosphere inside or enjoy the tables overlooking the Yarra and city landmarks (does it get any better?).

Sake offers flexibility and a range of dining options including banquet style, a la carte and bar menu options. For us it had to be the bar menu as were had time constraints of needing to catch a show in 20 minutes time...

The panko rice balls were crispy and delicate - panko-fried rice balls with soy bean, bamboo & shiitake mushroom balls served with wasabi mayonnaise. We declared them to be a winner.

Next we enjoyed steamed prawn dumplings - 6 pieces of Chinese-inspired shumai with spicy ponzu served in a bamboo pot. Sake prepares sublime dumplings and these were an unusual texture and not without some kick with the spicy sauce.

Sake also delivers when it comes to karagge. I eat this stuff all over Melbourne and love it. Sake serves up crispy chicken karaage fried chicken pieces served with salsas & sauces. Delectable.

We both ate our meal with a choice cider and it was perfect for pre-show. I'm hoping to come back soon for a banquet to try some of the signature dishes such as popcorn shrimp, wagyu teriyaki and the kingfish.
