Wagyu Ya is a premium dining experience in Melbourne that features the best of beef in the world. We were privileged to try their new BBQ summer menu, featuring four curated Japanese Kobe beef and Australian Wagyu! Wagyu Ya, together with its sister venue, Niku Ou, are two of only three restaurants in Australia to be granted with a licence to cook and serve Kobe beef, the most rare (and expensive) beef in the world. So this was a special occasion to savour.

Catering to all occasions and budgets, each set menu includes a selection of seasonal vegetables, three home-made dipping sauces (Japanese Sweet Soy Sauce, Spicy Miso and Spring Onion), premium Japanese rice & Miso soup and a choice of Green Tea or Black Sesame ice cream.

The Rolls Royce of beef, Kobe refers to the cuts taken from the Tajima strain of Wagyu cattle raised in Hyogo Prefecture (Japan). Undergoing rigorous and uncompromising quality criteria, only a select few “Tajima-gyu” (Tajima cattle) are awarded the title "Kobe Beef" and are graded accordingly on BMS (Beef Marbling Standard), yield score and fine meat texture and excellent firmness.

It is fascinating to compare the best of Japanese beef to the best of Australian beef - I appreciated both but the Japanese Kobe beef is something else!
