A Little Bird Told Me Cafe
A Little Bird Told Me is one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne and is on the rise. The brainchild of former Seven Seeds head roaster Caleb Heaney and his partner Rebecca, this cafe has quickly captured the imagination of Melbournians with its modern refreshing fit out and serious coffee culture. The mantra here is fresh, sustainable, local.
A Little Bird Told Me beckons with its Scandinavian like fit out including Urban Salvage structural timber from Spotswood. The superb timber is reclaimed and handpicked. A local craftsman Henry was able to put it together.
The blue tiles on the counter are hand painted from Spain with a cement application. Pendant lights are fashioned by a Melbourne designer from Coco Flip design company. The tables are powder coated with the colour of the pendants for effect. Rebecca was also responsible for the powder coated steel frames that enhance.
I love the feel and design of this cafe. It's a departure from the semi industrial feel of many Melbourne cafes. Caleb and Rebecca have sought to provide an ambience that is homely as well as functional. Sit on a stool along the large windows with a newspaper. Or imbibe at the communal tables.
A Little Bird Told Me also stocks some of Melbourne's choicest croissants through Lune Croissanterie. The ham and cheese croissant is exceptionally light and flaky. So good. These croissants sell out before the lunch hour no matter the size of the order. Fair enough too because it's always better to consumer croissants while they're fresh. I've had the ham and cheese croissant 3 times now and lately indulged in this delicious Rhubarb Danish.
A Little Bird Told Me also stock Matt Forbes cakes, which I noticed a number of people around me consuming. The Lamington looks a treat.

A Little Bird Told Me is a coffee destination of note. Caleb spent 3 1/2 years heading up the Roastery at Seven Seeds, as well as a stint at Small Batch. Hence A Little Bird Told Me serves up the Seven Seeds House Blend, as well as some single origins from its Synesso.

Check out the chic stools and timber table above, adjacent to a large window and graffiti across the way. There's a sense of space and lightness here with high ceilings as well as the large windows.
Staff are engaging and cheerful and happily pour for the morning regulars. The location here is brilliant on Little LaTrobe. Access via Melbourne Central is to take the stairs to Little LaTrobe at the back of the Food Court.
A Little Bird told me has plans to roast its own coffee in the not too distant future. Can't wait. There are also plans to expand the food selection but I'm in raptures over those croissants!
