Chia New Healthy Choice
Home grown success story, The Chia Co, recently celebrated 10 years of farming Chia in Australia. Held at The Cargo Hall, South Wharf Promenade, the company’s Aussie Open themed party also officially launched The Chia Pod in Australia, the USA and UK. The World Loves Melbourne was invited to check out the chia phenomenon.
In addition to snacking on a Chia-themed superfood menu, guests were entertained by professional table tennis players Simon Gerada and Melissa Tapper, along with Victorian Under 13 team members Sky and Finn Luu.
Being a pork belly tragic I learned that I don't necessarily need to abandon my whole diet regime but I can embrace chia seeds from my current modus operandi and take baby steps. I can in fact sprinkle chia seeds on my pizza for example!
I was informed that chia seeds are being grown by Chia Co in the Kimberley region and have high grade properties compared to other chia around the world. Chia contains fibre, protein, omega 3 and numerous health benefits. The omega 3 is essential plant based different to fish oil omega 3. There's an argument we were designed to consume seeds and that most of us lack omega 3. Bring it on!
Triple M Sports Announcer Jeff Tyler MC’d the event, which was attended by Melbourne’s tastemakers, including The Chia Co’s Founder John Foss and his wife Kay Foss. Some very lucky door prizes were given away, including Women’s Aussie Open final tickets and Beach Cruiser bikes.
This was an impressive night. I felt like joining the revolution and enjoyed eating a couple of the chia pods! My wide tells me she already enjoys chia seeds on her breakfast and now I'm starting to get into it all. Even as a pork belly tragic.
