East Launches in Little Collins

The World Loves Melbourne was invited along to East in Little Collins St, a modern casual restaurant with Chinese flavours. You only have to travel to East to experience Melbourne’s most innovative interpretation of traditional Chinese flavours by the team behind the cult Hutong Restaurants.Located in the CBD’s east-end, along the popular Little Collins Street culinary strip and at the base of Melbourne’s newest five star Sheraton Hotel, Hutong Group launches East this month – a contemporary wine bar and Chinese tapas and sharing style restaurant to the city’s modern and dynamic food scene.

Hutong Group Food & Beverage Director, Eric Chew said that East delivers all of the fast paced excitement of your favourite local Chinese spot but refined for Melbourne’s modern food lover. “Melburnians love quick, casual dining that is fun and, most importantly, delicious. East marries our love of authentic Chinese flavours delivered in a beautiful setting that’s perfect to catch up with friends for a quick lunch or sumptuous dinner,” Eric said. Eric said Hutong Group has brought across head chef of its popular Crown Casino restaurant Man Tong Kitchen, Yi Bo Wang who has crafted a menu that reinterprets the Chinese dining experience. “Our menu is our take on Chinese tapas with lots of small plates and some more substantial sharing options too,” Eric said.

With a menu designed for sharing, Eric predicts that the crowd favourites will include East Signature Slow Cooked Pork Ribs, Roti Rolls with Steamed Chicken in Szechuan Chilli Sauce, Signature Xiao Long Bao, Fried Potato Balls with Creamy Spicy Sauce, and Signature Dumplings that can be topped off with a delectable sweet treat of Mango Pudding and Banana Duo with ice cream.

A fresh and fun drinks menu features Asian inspired cocktails such as Lychee Martinis, Lemongrass Illusion and The Great East along with local and imported boutique beers and wines to match. For those seeking a more subtle drinks menu, premium Chinese blended teas will be served to refreshdiners’ palates including Chrysanthemum, Rose Flower and Tai Hu Green Bamboo teas. East encourages its indecisive diners to enjoy its tasting menu that’s selected by the chef with courses of signature dishes including entrees, mains and dessert for only $58.80 per person.
