Good Beer Week 2014 Lineup
The fourth Good Beer Week is expected to be the biggest yet, and the festival team has just revealed a teaser for their 2014 lineup that boasts epic local and international talent.
For their third consecutive appearance at Good Beer Week, New York legends Brooklyn Brewery will be bringing brewmaster, author and renowned speaker Garrett Oliver to Melbourne for the first time.
As author of ‘The Brewmasters Table’, Garrett is widely regarded as the world’s foremost expert on food and beer matching. Good Beer Week has matched him with the team at Vue de Monde, where he will represent beer against a leading Australian wine expert over five courses of three chef hat cuisine.
Also joining the stars of the Australian beer world is international talent that includes 2012 Australian International Beer Award winners Deschutes from Oregon, former techno DJ turned brewer Brian Strumke from Stillwater, and John Maier from Californian crazies Rogue, famous for brewing a beer using a yeast culture sourced from their founder’s own beard – now that’s taking craft beer culture to a new level. They’re joined by brewers from the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Japan and New Zealand.
But enough about the international guests, the festival features an array of homegrown talent – and not just from the beer world. Our very own Michael Ryan of Beechworth restaurant Provenance will be hosting a high end lunch with Italians Birra del Borgo. Ryan is the 2012 and 2013 Age Good Food Guide Chef of the Year, while Matt Wilkinson, co-owner of Pope Joan, headlines a team of star chefs as Good Beer Week’s “Mega Dega” degustation returns.
Good Beer Week will take place from 17 – 25 May 2014. Described by international brewers as “the best beer week in the world”, the nine-day festival has grown almost 400 per cent since launching in May 2011.
