Royal Selangor Launches in Emporium Melbourne

Malaysian pewter brand Royal Selangor makes its home at Emporium Melbourne, the largest retail development to be built in the Melbourne CBD for more than a century. The World Loves Melbourne enjoyed the launch where Adam Liaw of TV Chef and Masterchef winner fame was on hand to relate stories of Malaysia and of Royal Selangor.

The Emporium boasts high-end indulgence, a perfect match to exclusively host the brands latest store. Royal Selangor launched their luxurious store to showcase all their unique conceptions and collaborations ranging from pewter giftwares to modernist tableware, home décor and ornamental designs.
“The architecture concept of the Emporium Melbourne which merges the old and new fits in with Royal Selangor, a 129 year-old brand that is constantly reinventing itself to keep up with modern lifestyle needs and aspirations. We invite everyone to discover RoyalSelangor’s fine pewter design and rich heritage of craftsmanship,” said Chen Tien Yue,Executive Director of Royal Selangor Marketing.
The World Loves Melbourne enjoyed meeting Chen Tien Yue and hearing the compelling stories of the family and the global success of Royal Selangor.
The brand’s philosophy, heritage and quality craftsmanship can be seen through the store’s interior that fuses tradition and modernity. Neutral colours, natural wood tones and ambient lighting exude a quiet and elegant feel for a luxurious shopping experience.
The most prominent interior detail of the store is the cashier counter decorated with pewter tiles forming a traditional mengkuang weave motif, a traditional Malaysian craft.
The World Loves Melbourne imbibed the fine Malaysian cuisine at the launch and enjoyed a chat with the Australian CEO of Royal Selangor.
With a heritage dating back to 1885, the newest collections, encompassing a variety of materials and textures pose as a strong rival to modern designs. Partnering with international designers such as London based VW+BS and Denmark’s Erik Magnussen have resulted in contemporary pieces that emphasise modernity and ease of use.

The company has also introduced fresh interpretations to classical designs, through close collaboration with museums such as Victoria and Albert Museum of London and the National Palace Museum in Taipei.
Royal Selangor is available in over 20 countries, found in prestigious stores such as Wako in Japan and Harrods in the United Kingdom. It also has its own retail stores in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and China.
