The Great Australian Curry by Opportunity International
Cook up a favourite curry, share it with friends and raise funds to help give a hand up to families living in poverty! Simply go on the Opportunity International website then cook some curries this October and November and help raise money for needy families.
Too many people in the world live in poverty – and sadly, many of them right on our doorstep. Just past Australia’s shores, Asia is home to family after family who struggle to earn an income. As a result, they go without three meals a day, clean water, safe shelter and even school for their children. The World Loves Melbourne is impressed by the work of Opportunity International around the world and this exciting Great Australian Curry initiative.
We had an amazing time (Eseta and Elisha) at the launch of the Great Australian Curry at Indian restaurant Nilgiri's in Cremorne Sydney. It was "game on" with celebrities Stephanie Rice versus Michael Kasprowicz in a curry cook-off in support of Opportunity's work to transform the lives of families living in poverty. It was inspiring night - and now it's time to make curries for a great cause!
Who doesn't love a great curry? The curries at Nilgiri's were first class! Members of the public were able to buy tickets to the launch event.
Asia is also full of incredible curries – from the Korma Curry of India to the Green Curry of Thailand. Colourful dried spices hang in busy streets while the air is filled with the incredible aroma of street food and home cooking.
By sharing a curry with friends this October or November (in honour of Anti-Poverty Week – 16-22 October), we can celebrate the vibrancy of these countries while also giving a hand up to families in need. Every dollar raised will help Opportunity International Australia provide small loans to families in Asia, giving them the tools they need to start their own businesses, earn regular incomes and begin to leave poverty behind.
The World Loves Melbourne and The World Loves Sydney were impressed by the launch of this amazing initiative in Sydney.
Stephanie and Michael seemed like "naturals" in the kitchen. Their competitive juices were flowing.
Daniel Belzer from Opportunity International was a vibrant host.
Nilgiri's is a newish restaurant that packs a punch; with many highlights from their Tasting Menu. A great curry needs to have tender meat, right amount of spice, high quality sauce and be overall delicious.
What a night!
Get on it.
