The World Loves Melbourne had a top notch dining experience at Red Gum BBQ via the OpenTable app (sponsored by OpenTable). Red Gum Pilsener was a perfect start to our meal. With customers waiting for a table, we were able to walk straight in thanks to booking on OpenTable.
Everything was exceptional, notably the Grass-fed Beef Brisket (Cape Grim) which was melt in your mouth 12 hours smoked brisket with Texas-style salt and pepper dry rub. Best ever brisket.
Red Gum BBQ has a big reputation in Melbourne - for many a visit to the Mornington Peninsula is incomplete without a visit to Red Gum BBQ (even for those on wine tours). The restaurant is located in the heart of Red Hill in a huge warehouse offering authentic Aussie-Smoked, American-Style BBQ. Red Gum BBQ is the brainchild of husband and wife duo, Melissa and Martin Goffin. Red Gum BBQ was already popular in Red Hill when it opened, as it had a strong following already from its years of traveling around to markets and festivals with only the one Smoker and a 3m x 3m marquee.
Another hit was the Brisket Chilli Cheese Fries, a meal in itself more than a side, featuring beef brisket and kidney beans chilli, hand cut fries, creamy cheese sauce, sliced jalapenos, cheese, sour cream and red onions.

Free range pork ribs St Louis style, featuring 5 hours smoked pork ribs with homemade Kansas style sauce. Perfectly cooked ribs (we chose the 600g serving) with spice nuance, and the basting of sauce was welcome. Served with another container of sauce on the side, which I took delight in using.
Buffalo chicken wings featuring Red Gum BBQ signature brine and smoked, with Gorgonzola blue cheese dressing (a highlight in itself).
What a feast! The classic Southern-style creamy Mac n Cheese was also first class and the fresh and zesty Coleslaw featured homemade mayo.
Red Gum BBQ is a serious BBQ restaurant located in a massive 900 sqm space with multiple, huge smokers and a dedicated Smoke Pit - and the locals are loving it. Husband and Wife team fell in love with BBQ together when Martin visited Melissa’s US Home back in 2002. Southern American Melissa Goffin and her BBQ loving English husband Martin Goffin have a passion for slow cooked BBQ dishes, sides and desserts essentially created from Melissa’s Grandma’s original hand-written recipes.

Many of the BBQ places we know are smallish and humble establishments but Red Gum BBQ with its 900sqm space, is designed to reflect the focus on good food, family and enjoyment. The result is a great place to hang out and visit.

Dessert hit the high notes with a rich indulgent moist Chocolate Fudge Brownie (homemade) with whipped cream, strawberry and caramel sauce (of course we added vanilla ice cream).
