Staycation Mövenpick Melbourne and Miss Mi

For those looking for a luxe hotel staycation in the Melbourne CBD, Australia’s second-ever Mövenpick Hotel is the perfect tonic, and we enjoyed a stunning stay featuring a magnificent suite, world class dining at Miss Mi, and an epic chocolate fix. Located in the heart of Melbourne, across the road from Southern Cross Station, Mövenpick Hotel ticks all the boxes for the discerning traveller, adventurous local and the astute business person.

Enter through the foyer of the 78-storey Premier Tower development, where engaging staff are keen to please. We were welcomed with a chocolate feast and a bottle of wine on ice in our suite - the perfect start.  Wow factor. The reception area adjoins an appealing cafe serving Mövenpick signature ice cream and hosts a daily chocolate hour (which we would have visited if not for the epic chocolate feast in our room).

We were struck by world class local art at every turn.  The hotel hallways and each room feature works from local photographers, notably Steve Scalone and Sean McDonald, and brings such a great vibe. Funky decor, with marbled black and white floors and sexy couches adds to the ambience.

Our suite was suitably spacious and well-appointed, adorned with art, a desirable lounge area, massive flat-screen TV, a massive bath tub and huge bathroom, and much more. Truly epic. Functional and stylish, with a splash of fun. Perfect for special occasions, as well as for those who want a vibrant experience different to the norm. I felt that Mövenpick Hotel pays attention to the "little touches" to enhance your stay.

We checked out the impressive 25-metre heated swimming pool, sauna and gym. Our visit to the pool was in fact after dinner and we were pleasantly surprised to learn that the  pool stays open until 10pm!

A highlight was dinner at Miss Mi restaurant and bar, which featured well-executed and imaginative dishes that took us on an exciting journey through Asia.

Highly impressive dishes excited the palate with bold flavours, including Borneo Boar Sausage, Fried Chicken Ribs in Nuoc Mam, Mapu Tofu special with bone marrow and prawn, Timorese Barramundi, Crispy Pork Belly, Seasonal Wok Fried Vegetables, washed down with @deedsbrewing XPA. Exotic dishes and fabulous quality ingredients.

We enjoyed excellent service and a great vibe in this spacious and visually appealing restaurant. It looked to us like city workers and some of the footy crowd were there imbibing on a Friday night. The place to be after work.

We were thrilled to return to Miss Mi in the morning for breakfast, savouring every bite of the extensive buffet on offer.

This was a funky, fun and fabulous stay in a luxe hotel with loads of features, located in a convenient part of the Melbourne CBD. Highly recommended and surely one of the best hotels in Melbourne.

The main entryway is through the foyer of the striking 78-storey Premier Tower development, and the friendly staff will be at the ready to assist you with check-in. The concierge area opens up into a grand room featuring heaps of seating and a cafe serving the famed Mövenpick signature ice cream.

The lobby is also where guests can partake in the daily chocolate happy hour from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Indulge in complimentary treats like chocolate petit fours, churros and mini ice cream cones and sandwiches. For serious chocolate lovers, you can elevate your experience with the purchase of a signature Mövenpick ice cream chocolate parfait. It’s loaded with macarons, wafers, saved bits of chocolate and chocolate whipped cream all atop a few scoops of ice cream.

The hotel hallways and each room are dotted with works from local photographers like Steve Scalone and Sean Mcdonald, giving the space a vibrant and artsy feel. There's an understated elegance about the decor, with marbled black and white floors and countertops accentuated by vibrant pops of turquoise, orange and purple via throw pillows and couches.

For those planning a staycation, be sure to book the suite: the bathroom features a massive free-standing tub coupled with a small table, perfect for a soak paired with a bottle of vino. If baths aren't really your style, each bathroom comes with a rain shower stocked with Yuni Beauty products. Afterwards, it's time to chuck on the plush robes, recline on the comfortable sofa or on your bed made with premium linen and turn on the massive flat-screen TV.

On the second floor, you’ll find all of the guest amenities including a 25-metre swimming pool, a heated pool with jets, a sauna and a gymnasium. Bonus: the pool stays open until 10pm, making the Mövenpick one of the few hotels in Melbourne where guests can swim at night.

When you start to feel your belly rumble, call the concierge to arrange a booking at Miss Mi restaurant and bar. With a menu curated by chef Esca Khoo, who has experience working at fine-dining establishments like Longrain and Dinner by Heston, you’ll be taken on a gastronomic journey through Asia. The $95 set tasting menu features inspiration and flavours from countries like Malaysia, Vietnam, China, Thailand and more.
