Stunning Dinner at Ms Jackson in Doncaster East

We enjoyed an incredible night at Ms Jackson Restaurant & Bar, a shining light in Melbourne and there’s nothing like it in the region of Doncaster East. Surely one of the best bar/restaurants in Melbourne.

Locals are discovering this place and Ms Jackson was packed on a Wed night when we visited. Worth a drive across town in my opinion for the elevated but approachable wine and food, exceptional service, and modern vibe.

Wine list is elevated with co-owner and Sommelier Matt Forbes (Patch Wines) assembling an exceptional local (including up and comers) and international range of wines and training staff to be knowledgeable in the offering. Also check out their craft beer, cocktails, and array of whiskies.

Kudos to co-founder and Head Chef Stephanie Stapleton (ex Jackalope and Montalto) for bringing the culinary hits with an array of classic Italian dishes and some with a fresh twist, such as -
  • Rizzoli Anchovies on Toast with Tomato Butter (as an anchovie freak this was perfection)
  • Potato Rosti with Taramasalata and Salmon roe (another cracking lively small dish with outside crunch and soft within) 
  • Hiramasa Kingfish with Coriander and Chili (super fresh quality Kingfish and generous portion)
  • Eggplant Parmigiana (a rock star dish in looks and taste, you realise at this point Steph highlights fresh local seasonal ingredients to showcase them in exciting ways)
  • Crab Linguini with Burnt Chili and Bottarga (Vibrant pasta dish that sings)
  • Lamb Shoulder with Marsala jus (the sauces here are exceptional) with Hummus and Roasted Cauliflower (delicious and served in a separate bowl to the lamb). Melt in your mouth lamb with perfect accompaniment side dish
  • Focaccia with Caramelized Onion Butter (super fresh house made focaccia was a highlight, and the butter set it off)
  • Fries, Herb Salt, Mayo (joyous dish with skin on fries).
  • Deconstructed Apple Crumble dessert (clever dessert but not my favourite. You need to get all the elements on your spoon).

Our meal was perfectly paired with 2022 Crittenden Pinot Noir, 2021 Rosso Di Valtellina Nebbiolo, and Patch Wines Shed Red (Yarra Valley field blend of Bordeaux varieties and a Turkish variety), as well as 2018 Bream Creek Late Picked Shonburger (Tasmania).
